Hi
I was wondering if i could get some advice on distribution points. Basically We have one SMS 2003 (SP3) server which services 7 offices. The site boundaries are delimited by AD Sites (7 AD sites for the 7 offices) and the Roaming Boundaries tab has "Include site boundaries within..." ticked.
I want to set up a distribution point at each of the AD sites (each office) to avoid network traffic so i need to set up protected distribution points. What i am a bit unsure of is how do i actually achieve this from the SMS console? I have the servers in place at the offices that i want to use for the PDP, I'd just like to know what i need to do from within the console so that the DP's are indeed protected and only pushing packages to the office it resides in. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Go to site systems for each site and right click properties for your server, select the Distribution Points tab and at the bottom there is an "enable a protected distribution Point" check box.

ok, so after reading your post... Basically, on the 7 servers i want to use as dp's i make a new shared folder. On my primary server, i right click Site Systems --> New Server Share, click set, type the path to the shared folder, click the distribution Point tab, tick use site as dp, enable bits and tick enable as a pdp then configure the boundaries i want used for that pdp. Is that correct? Will that achieve what i am trying to do? Thanks for your help with this!

That should be it. You can use the same AD sites that you have definied in your site boundaries to protect the DP's.
Enable BITS only if you have IIS on the server. Also, the DP's need to have the computer account of the primary server added as a local administrator.
