In my enviorment I have 1 SCCM server and 1 WSUS server.  Currently my WSUS server is a site server of SCCM.  I have am able to pull a list of windows updates from my WSUS server, but the problem/confussion is that when I look at my updates I see that some updates have one or two installed, some have 0-1 required, some have a few that is not required, and then I have about 95% of my computers showing up as unkown.
Is this normal, have I missed something.

thanks in advance.

Unknown means that they have not been scanned by SCCM so there is no way to know if it is required.

Check your Software Updates Client Agent Properties under Site Settings>client Agents

Make sure "Enable Software updates on Clients" is checked
Set your schedule of when you want the scan performed.
check to make sure your other tabs are also setup

Here is how my Software Update Client is set:
On the General Tab: it is enabled and the schedule is set to run every: 1 days
On the Update Installation Tab: Enforce all manadatory deployments is enabled and the schedule is set for 5 days
On the Deployment Re-evaluation: Run every: 5 days

Should I make a change somewhere?

Your settings are correct.  I would check the report to see what computer has a patch that is unknown.  Then on the machine force the scan update and watch the log.  Then re-run the report to see if they have changed.

Which one of my logs would I check to make sure that my advertisements are being sent out?

Check your policy log, you can also do the Policy spy to see if it went to the client.

Client side:
WUHandler.log
UpdatesStore.log
Updateshandler.log - did the client scan

Thanks
I have another question that you might be able to answer for me.  I just created a package, program, and advertisement  for Office 2003 but when I click on software distribution nothing show ups.  I also have it pointing to a collection that I created for testing.
The last message ID that I see is 30006 that I created an Advertisement named Office Professional

Check to make sure the package has replicated to all DP's and that a DP is setup for the package.  If the adv is setup for "as soon as possible" it will run as soon as the policy refreshes

I only have one DP, and it is installed on that DP. When I check the package status is says Source Ver 1, Targeted 1, Installed 1.  I do have it set to ASAP, and this package was created at 11:30 est.
I know the package is good because when I do an OSD it installs on the computer

I was mistaken my package did not install on my OSD Deployment. I am guessing that both issues are part of the same problem.

Just an FYI
My advertisement finally showed up, but it took it almost two days.  I think it took so long because one of the adv was a XP Install.wim, not sure just guessing.  Any way both my XP and My Office adv are showing.

On to the next problem :-)
