We recently upgraded from SMS 2003 SP3 to SCCM 2007 SP1.  We have upgraded the nearly 10000 clients in the last two weeks.  Now I have some systems (I don't know how may, but I am keeping a list) that are prompting for credentials when we try to connect.  The Remote Tools client agent is active and I cannot find any difference between a system that prompts and one that doesn't.  I have compared the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SMS\Client\Client Components\Remote Control registry entries and they are the same.

Any suggections from here?

After some digging, I found that the DCOM permissions were not correct on the Remote Tools DCOM objects.  Administrators were denied every permission except Local Activation and the ConfigMgr Remote Control Users group was not listed in the permissions.

The only fix I have found (besides tinkering with the DCOM permissions on all Remote Tools objects) is to use CCMClean to remove the client, wait a few minutes and then re-install the client.

Has anyone else seen this or have another resolution that I can try?

Also, we have no idea how many systems are affected.  We only discover them when someone tries to remote and gets propmted for credentials.

By the way, check http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=3724725&SiteID=17 for a list of the proper DCOM credentials required for each object.
