I am using SCCM to deploy Office 2007 with a custom msp file. The installation occurs properly and is installed, but it reports in SCCM as progam failed (run time exceeded). The details are as follows:

Command Line: setup.exe (custom msp is in update folder)
Run: Hidden
After running: Config Mgr restart (also tried program restarts computer)

Here is a report on one of the machines:

I also reboot the machines prior to the office package running to ensure they are in a clean state.

BTW some machines report properly, but most do not and show as failed.

I have been pulling my hair out trying to figure this out. All of my other software deployments report properly.

Any help is appreciated.

Looks like your PC's require a reboot to complete the install.  You need to either account for this in your package or have Config Mgr reboot the PC.  Either way you need to set the program properties to the correct setting under the General Tab in the "After Running" option.

Why don't you create two flavours of the MSP file - one for verbose and one for silent. Put them in the root of the SCCM source folder and amend your command line to setup.exe /adminfile verbose.msp for example. Then test doing an advertised installation to see what's going on. Then when your happy use the silent one. Obviously change the display level in OCT for your verbose test

As William says looks like SCCM is sitting there waiting for something - probably a reboot and then times out and therefore registers as a fail

Thanks for the response. I have tried program restarts and config mgr restart with no luck.

So is the machine actually restarting?  What is your Maximum Runtime set to in your program?

I am pretty sure most, if not all do.There is a maitenance window from 10p to 2a on the collection. The advertisement has a mandatory start of 10:30p daily. The maximum runtime is 90 minutes.
