could someone please help me understand why some of my inventory reports are not showing some PC's that I know have SMS installed. Also is there a way to manually refresh reports? We also have some discrepencay between what SMS and the actual Windows updates shows as missing updates. I have verified that thru the package it is current. An example would be say SMS shows its missing 2 updates, but when you are at the PC you run Windows updates and it shows like 12 missing updates. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

SMS 2003?

Are you just running ITMU? or do you have the ESUIT running as well?

That is the problem, you need to run ITMU AND ESUIT on all workstations, otherwise you will not see what HF are needed on all WS.

okay I downloaded but it looks like it creates a whole new package and advertisement for me to deploy. I'm a little confused as what this will do? I'm fairly new to SMS 2003 and still trying to understand all the verbage.

You need to advertize this to all of your clients and it will return additional HF that are required by all workstations.

You need to run Hardware inventroy. The WMI error is another issue, that you should look at.

when i right click on the PC that is not showing up in my report inventory and run the trigger hardware inventory I get the same message failed to connect to WMI permission denied 70. Seems there are alot of issues regarding the WMI issue but yet to get any valuable info regarding on the fix. I have also tried to repair the SMS client with no luck as well.

Is the Server servers started? Error 70 translates to "The remote server has been paused or is in the process of being started."

gjones, Yes on the workstation that is not showing accurate results in my reports and giving the WMI 70 error the server service is started as well as the computer browser since it depends on that as well.

What if you run this from a command-prompt

WMIC /node:YourRemoteMachine Service GET Name, State

If it works then we know WMI is running and you have permissions on that machine.  It should show all remote services and if they're running, stopped, paused, etc.

If it doesn't work, then the WMI service (winmgmt) isn't running on that machine or is paused or something.  Without WMI, SMS stuff no worky.

gjones, No I don't. Also after launching ESUIT to all machines nothing has changed on my reporting still does not seem to be updating correctly.

jnelson, I have verified that the services are running. Also that errors out when I run that command

You need to work on why you are getting that WMI error, once that has been clean up try running ESUIT again, force Hardware inventory to run then review the list of HFs that shows up within SMS.

Garth is right on.  Gotta figure out why you're getting the WMI errors.
  1. Look at the machine, is the "Windows Management Instrumentation" service (WINMGMT) running?
  2. Is the firewall blocking remote WMI?
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa389286(VS.85).aspx
  3. Is DCOM/COM set right

Okay got the WMI issue cleared up, ran the ESUIT again on all machines. However the report reboot pending is still showing several PC's that need to be rebooted since like Feb. and I know for a fact those PC's have been rebooted but the report still shows them.

Force the hardware inventory to occur and see if it updates the data. If not look at this and find out where it breaks.
