SCCM 2007, BITS and Packages with Hidden Files Monday, February 20, 2012 6:53 PM (permalink)

Hi all.  We just encountered an odd issue at work earlier and I haven't managed to stumble across any references to this issue anywhere, so I'll post a new one.

If I have a package that contains hidden files, my Windows 7 clients fails during the package download to the local cache, specifically, during the validation phase of the download, just before it launches.  I've tested this several different ways and so far it's always come down to whether or not the package has a hidden file in it as far as whether or not the download succeeds or not.  If you want to test it, in my package source folder, I created 2 text files with a few characters in it to give it size and a dummy batch file to use for the Program.  I hid one of the text files, then distributed and advertised.  On the Windows 7 machine, the advertisement alert came up and it proceeded to download the package to the local cache, then during the validation failed.  If you go back and un-hide that text file, update the DP and wait for the package versions to get lined up, then re-run it on your client, it works.

Am I crazy?!  I don't recall ever having this happen on SMS 2003 or other company's SCCM 2007 systems before, but now I'm wondering if I've ever tried to move a hidden file through BITS on Windows 7.

Hi, I'm sure this isn't going to help much but hidden files work ok here (SCCM 2007 SP2 R3, Client Windows 7 x64)

    I think I recreated your test correctly?!;
    Package-------------------------
    Hidden.txt (hidden file)
    Visible.txt
    run.bat (echo success > c:\run.log)
    -------------------------
Whether or not a user is logged on
    Ignore windows
    Allow restart
    Download content and run locally
    No interaction
    ----------------------------
downloaded and ran ok (tried from a std secondary DP and a branch)

I'm afraid I have no idea why it's not working BUT at least you are not crazy
    :)

EDIT: Just tried as an option advert and an interactive, both work.

Is your WebDav settings on the DP set to "Allow hiden files"?

That was it. BITS on this one DP was set to disallow hidden files.  I could have sworn I set that.... apparently not.  Thanks!
