SCCM Client Center Tool not showing correct information Thursday, February 09, 2012 10:24 AM (permalink)

Hello all.

I've got a few servers/workstations that are not getting their SCCM patches/advertisements.  When I use the SCCM Client Center tool to poll for the "security patch state", the information is not showing up correctly on these troublesome machines.

For instance, I click on "show approved patches."  It's not showing anything that I've approved in the last 6-8 months...the newer patches seem non-existent to these machines.  I've tried some troubleshooting on these machines, including updating to the latest service pack (that actually worked once), manually going to Windows Update and applying the patches, etc.

But I haven't found a good fix yet.  The SCCM client on these machines appear to be healthy (but I'm not so sure).  Should I uninstall/reinstall the SCCM client?  Any other suggestions on how to fix this wackiness?

Thanks,
Chris

It can't hurt to try an uninstall; but in client center you could also try "reset policy" and watch policyagent.log.  There's also some other things to try in client center as well, like WMIRepair could be attempted.

fyi, "show approved patches" would only have content is first "show all" shows anything at all, and second, that particular computer needs to have received a policy regarding a Deployment Management, which specific ones are approved for that particular computer.

Edit: and remember that software updates in CM heavily relies on Windows Update; so you could try some of the standard "my windows update doesn't work" fixes, like reinstalling WUAgent, or re-registering the wua dlls and deleting the WUA patch folder of %windir%\softwaredistribution.  There's steps out there/batch files with all the lines, I don't have it memorized...

Sherry, I'd like to thank you very much for the suggestion to "reset policy" in the SCCM Client Center tool.  That fixed the server that I've been struggling with!  (I did not have to uninstall/reinstall the SCCM client or repair WMI, at least not this time around).

Looking forward to your upcoming webcast; it's great to have such an active SCCM community/forum.
