We are trying to find a way to engineer an installation of just the components required for Remote.EXE and RC.EXE for our support staff so we do not have to install the full Console, and can just give them what they need to be able to remote control PC's.  Unfortunately we still have enough Windows 2000 machines where we need this.

I have seen some other posts about this, but none with any solution.

Wondering if anyone has made any progress in this subject.

Thanks.

Hey everyone I figured it out.  At least seems to work so far.

I was getting an error when launching Remote.exe just by itself from the i386 folder under AdminUI\Bin.  So I checked Event Viewer and the error pointed at VC80.MFC assembly not found.  Realized this is part of Visual C++ Runtime. I downloaded the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86)
Installed it
Copied the i386 (D:\SMSSETUP\ADMINUI\BIN\i386) folder from the DVD (which I assume would be the same as from your SMS_XXX share) to the C drive of my test computer and was able to launch Remote.EXE and control a Windows 2000 computer.

Nice find.  Thanks for sharing.  Its too bad Microsoft took out the CTRL+ALT+DEL functionality so we wont be using it but for those who dont need that this good info.

To shut down and / or restart a windows machine from remote tools connection it is needed to press CTRL-ALT-END.
The screen with the options will appears.

Well you can always use use the "shutdown -r" command as well.  ;)

However I was more referring to the ability to remote into a PC without anyone logged on adn being able to pass a ctrl+alt+del to the login screen and logon to the box.  This is a pretty critical function for us that unfortunately we cant live without.  :(
