All

I have deployed SCOM in a test environment and installed the agent onto 2 DCs as well as 40 other servers.  All Agents are working fine except for the DC agents which show as greyed out in the ops mgr console.

They are also reporting errors “Health Service Unloaded System Rules”...  it only appears to be failing to load a handful of rules so not sure what the significance of the grey icon is?

Anyone come across this before?

All servers are Windows 2003 SP2 and SCOM is at SP1

Grey icons indicate communication issues with the system that is grey.  Check that the agent is running and able to connect back to the RMS/MS.  Check IP connectivity, check name resolution, etc; i.e., all the usual suspect when troubleshooting connectivity.

Hmmm... comms on port 5723 are fine.  there are no firewalls between the server and the agent and the status recently updated from critical to healthy which indicates the comms are ok?

Why are DCs such a pain in the **** in MOM/SCOM???

thanks for the reply

Leigh

Did you check the log on the DCs for specific errors?

There were comms errors initially prior to approving the agent install but the only Ops Mgr event logs now are the "Health Service Rules being unloaded" (Event ID 1102).  The configuration is downloaded to the agent fine and it appears to be sending alerts to the console fine too...

Have you loaded SP1 for OpsMgr?  Have you removed the agents and pushed via the console instead of manually loading (you can also try a repair via the console)?  Have you been able to reboot a DC with this issue?  Do you have any management packs installed?  Do you have a single RMS or additional MSs?

Single RMS at the mo with SP1, only MP installed on top of the default MPs is the Windows Base OS MP for 2003.  I've installed from console, manually and have run a repair. Haven't managed a reboot so far though...

My next steps would be the reboot and a clean uninstall and re-install of the agent.  Do you have the agent running as local system?  Did you set up seperate service accounts for the Server action, SDK, dw reader and dw writer?

Worth a try no doubt...   Running as Local System.  Separate accounts for all...

Think I might go down the pub and hope it fixes itself tonight! :]
