    Hi,
I am using it internally at my company and have also installed it at different customers. It works right out of the box. You need to install and configure SCUP first.

At one point I thought SCUPDate was free, then I went on Shavik website and it says call for pricing.  Kagerlund, do you know how much you paid for licensing ?

I've never purchased the Shavlik product offering, but my understanding is that there is a cost involved.  SCUP itself is free, and you can create your own catalogues of course.  What you are paying Shavlik for is them creating the catalogues for you.

If it's that you need some guidance on how to create your own SCUP rules for custom updates, you might want to peruse Angie's blog:  http://www.queenofscup.com/

UPDATE: i have purchased the Shavlik SCUPdates and started using them and they are great for 3rd party patching. i am no longer creating software packages for every adobe acrobat, Mozilla, Apple update and doing a software deploymnet.

now i treat them just like Microsoft patches. (download\test\deploy)

i look forward to Shavlik expanding their 3rd party apps coverage.

            thanks

              Hi there,

i just founf SCUPdates in the net and i was wondering what the real price for that software is. As you mentioned before the software is for free but the catalog is not free. So what are the costs and with what costs do i have to expect per catalog? Thanks for the help!

                Hi,
as you probable already now that SCUP 4.5 is free and Microsoft has a couple of partners that offer free catalogs (Dell, HP, Intel). SCUP will also allow you to manually create your own 3rd party updates for free. (lot of testing)

if you are referring to Shavlik SCUPdates than they charge 8 per a seat. personally how my company is about security and patching (everything) it is a huge time saver to be able to just download deploy, like Microsoft patches. we are very happy with the way SCUP and Shavlik SCUPdates work in our environment.

                i hope this helps
