Hi all,

Can I just ask how you guys deal with:

1. Computers that are decommissioned but still in SMS - e.g. not reported back to the sms server for 6 months?
2. Computers that have been rebuilt with the same name? Are they supposed to get the client installed automatically again? This appears to be not happening in my environmemt.

Thanks

1) If they're still there after 6 months, then perhaps you don't have your maintenance tasks turned on, or there is still a heartbeat being returned, or there is a record in WINS or DHCP or Active Directory that points to this machine which needs to be cleaned up.

2) The best way to assure the clients get installed is to do it by GPO startup script.

Once the client installs, SMS/SCCM will notice that this is the same machine and mark the old record as obsolete and merge the history into the new record and the obsolete record will be taken care of by the normal scheduled maintenance tasks.
