Hi, I am having issues after I moved a sms 2003 primary server to new hardware. Everything is working as should be apart from a couple of error messages. My SQL server is 2005 and is located on remote hardware I am using advanced security. My SQL Server Account is a SQL account. This error will appear every minute and eventually cause the server to fall over! I have configured the ODBC data source as a system DSN and have tried using Windows Authentication and SQL server authentication which both seem to work ok. Please see error messages below, any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Microsoft SQL Server reported SQL message 297, severity 16: [42000][297][Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]The user does not have permission to perform this action.

According to http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms189768.aspx:
To run DBCC SQLPERF(LOGSPACE) requires VIEW SERVER STATE permission on the server

so I would check and make sure your SQL account has these rights

I just moved my db from local SQL 2000 SP4 to remote SQL 2005 SP2 and had this same error. My systems are in Advanced Security mode and use computer objects for access to remote SQL. I had a problem with packages not updating, I had to restart sms_executive to see distmgr.log react to a update distribution points request. The fix was to grant VIEW SERVER STATE to the SMS site server computer object on SQL 2005 server properties.
