Dear All,

I encountered SMS 2003 SP2 client only showed two components(user & machine policy) under Action. I had tried uninstall and reinstall the client few times, it still can't communicate with SMS server. Please advise. Thanks.

Regards,
KC

Hi there,

I type under correction, but check that there is a "Site Code" entry on the client Systems Management properties.

Kind regards,

Sounds like you are not recieving the initial policy that comes down and configures the client.  Check communcation with your Management Point.

Here is a quick way to troubleshoot the MP from your client:

From your web browser run these commang lines:

http://<MP_name>/sms_mp/.sms_aut?mplist <--- This returns a blank screen if the MP is working correctly.

http://<MP_name>/sms_mp/.sms_aut?mpcert <--- This returns a long list of numbers and letters if the MP is working correctly.

KC, before you hit "discover" interactively, was the site code populated?  If so, there may be a problem with your management point.  Jeff's quick tests will help you determine if that is the case.  If there was no site code, then in your installation script, you may need to add this parameter:  SMSSITECODE=AUTO, or SMSSITECODE=Your3DigitSiteCode.  i.e., if you only have 1 primary site, and it's site code if XYZ, that parameter could be  SMSSITECODE=XYZ

Hi Jeff and Skissinger,

Thanks for your reply. I tested the MP was working fine with the two mplist and mpcert without any problem. If I key in site code during client installation, the site code will appear in the System Management icon site code field. Is there any advise? Thanks.

Regards,
KC

I missed the question.  What do you need advice about? If you use SMSSITECODE=Your3DigitSiteCode in the installation string, and you get more than just 2 entries in the Action pane about 5 minutes later... You are done.  If you still don't get more than 2 entries in the action pane; then there is more to do.  Are you still not getting more than 2 actions in the action pane?

Hi Dear All,  Is there any other troubleshooting method which you can provide to resolve SMS client did not report to SMS server in term of hardware and software inventory ? As currently, I try to troubleshoot seven computers which only showed advanced client Yes in SMS administration console , but I can not see any hardware and software inventory information from resource explorer. Please provide any troubleshooting information, thanks.
