I connected to my SMS 2003 Database with SSMS 2005.  I put together a query an wish to now use it in SMS to create a collection.  However, I get syntax errors when I try to paste it into the a query window in SMS.  Works fine in SQL 2005 ... hates me in SMS.  I have not done as much query writing in SMS as I would like to and am now starting to do more of it.  Is there a resource to help me with this or some guidlines that some of you more experienced administrators can throw my way?

Hi!

Since the Queries (and Collections based on them) use WQL in stead of  T-SQL you have to rewrite your SQL queries. WQL is a very limited subset of SQL used to query the WMI objects/names.

Reports though are SQL queries and you can try to put your SQL-statement in a report but it will not help to create a collection.

The resource Microsoft provides on it is the SDK!

An article about WQL/SQL on this forum: http://www.myitforum.com/forums/m.asp?m=169323

Jan,

You are the man.  This is exactly what I needed.  Thank you.
