Hi All,

I am in the middle of rolling out SCCM and I have come across the need for a BDP for one of my facilities.  This site is currently setup in SMS2003 as Secondary because of it's slow network connection.  Since this site only has about 25 workstations, I think this is a perfect candidate for a BDP.  My only concern is what to do about patching.  I understand that I need a SUP on the Primary and that I can configure one on Secondary sites, but I am not sure what to do about the BDP?  Any insight on this is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for any help, as I'm rather new to this.

I have not done my Config MGR. deployment, nor have I used the software updates past an initial deployment and one test in my lab. But I am going to guess that there is nothing to do on the BDP. The clients will still receive policies from the primary MP and SUP, and then pull the updates themselves from the BDP (assuming the software update packages have been deployed to said BDP).

Does this sound correct?

I agree with Neil. The BDP is just a DP, so if you chose to make the site as such then your 25 client workstation will make WAN calls to the parent primary site to check their nearest SUP for patch applicability. Certainly a patch deployment downloads the patches from the local DP so no reason why it can't download from a BDP (I would have thought)

However, why not keep it as a secondary site?  - you must have a server there to have an SMS 2003 secondary and benefit from all the bandwidth capability of proxy MP and the secondary SUP to keep as much as possible local to the site
