Just curious how many people have implemented a single server, single management group scenario in their environment?  We have on a PowerEdge server with 2.4 ghz Xeon processor and nearly 4 gigs of RAM, and yet the CPU usage stays at 100%.  I'm not sure if this meets the hardware requirements for this scenario or not, but it certainly isn't doing any good as is right now.  We're doing AGENT monitoring on roughly 73 servers right now.

Does anybody have any recommendations concerning hardware requirements?  We used the Microsoft Deployment guide for SCOM 2007 as our roadmap for our installation.

We just implemented this week on a similiar platform, but are not in production yet. Once we ramp up in the next couple of weeks I'll update. So far things seem fine, but we've only installed the agent on about five servers.

I implemented SCOM2007 on similiar platform too, it seems fine. About 15 server agents. CPU usage a bit rise, but not so serious like you.

Have scaled up to 30+ server agents with no appreciable increase in CPU, Memory utilization. Do you perhaps have a custom response script that is causing issues?

No, just a basic installation.  Nothing custom added yet, with the exception of a few management packs.  Dell OpenManage, Windows Server, SMS 2003, and SQL management packs have been installed.

It looks like the Dell management pack is the culprit.  I reinstalled the entire SCOM infrastructure, installed the agent on 5 servers within the same site, and imported the Windows Server 2000/2003 management pack.  I let it sit for awhile and everything was running smoothly.  I then installed the Dell management pack, let it sit for a couple of hours, and the processor is pegged yet again.  I deleted the Dell management pack, and terminated the dsm_sa_datamgr32.exe process which promptly returned the CPU usage to normal.

We were also getting a lot of WMI errors on the management server as well as some of the servers of which the agent was installed.  The post at the following link further clarified this.

http://www.myitforum.com/forums/m_138853/mpage_1/key_Dell%252CManagement%252CPack/tm.htm#138853

After rebooting the server, the dsm_sa_datamgr32.exe process is still running, but doesn't appear to be taking up any CPU time.  I'll be trying to determine a way to remove it completely in the near future, as it looks like it belongs specifically to the Dell management pack.

Has anyone had any success with the Dell management pack?

If the process is consuming all one CPU you may have to update Dell OpenManage Server Administrator Managed Node.
You can see more details in http://circulotito.blogspot.com/2008/05/error-en-dsmsadatamgr32exe-bloquea-un.html

I've seen the Dell MP cause lots of WMI issues and script errors.  Especially when the OMSA version was not 100% up to date.
