Im currently having a big issue within my sccm site, I had sms before and decide to decomission it and install sccm, I decomission sms completely, Next I deployed SCCM , 3 servers,
Server1 MP,SLP,  Server2 DP, Server WSUS. To make it short I deployed it without extending the active directory schema becuase I never did it with sms 2003 either.
When I deployed the sccm clients, I selected the options to install or upgrade the clients.  So anyways clients where getting installed at first but then they stopped installing completely and they will install but they wont be able to discover their site code when this wasnt an issue at all in the beginning. I checked the Locationsservices.log pushing the client out to a test computer, I noticed that the computer was trying to look for the site code from the old sms server. I checked WINS records and noticed that the old SMS 2003 records where there, for exaple, MP_SITECODE. Also SMS_SLP. etc, etc.
I soon deleted these records. I made sure that I had the records for the new SCCM site. Now my issue is that I have plenty of client out there that have the client installed but they dont have a site code assignment and from what I have tested , I uninstalled the client using ccmclean.exe , pushed the client to it, It installs the clients. Now in the general TAB, in the bottom where it says Site Mode, the value is unknown.

Is it possible that the old sms client leaves something in the registry that tells it what site or Ip address it should be using to located the site.
Im not sure why in the locationservices.log it states failed to locate site code. If anyone could assist me in resolving  would appreciate it.

Hi

WINS and AD need to be cleaned up, so double check that.

Which clients are you uninstalling with ccmclean? keep in mind that SCCM clients cannot be uninstalled with ccmclean tool. It leaves a lot of rubbish of your client on the pC.

To uninstall SCCM client you need to use "ccmsetup /uninstall"

What about your MP and boundaries? All fine?

Thanks Inesta432 for your reply, Listen I have cleaned up WINS, as for active directory there is nothing in the System Management Container. I never extended the schema. I have although deleted all the old wins record from the previous sms 2003 infrastructure.
Also I have currently usd the ccmclan.exe to uninstall. I wasnt aware of the other other option, therefore you run  the other option from the command line correct. ccmsetup /uninstall. Also my management point is fine, I check the mepsetup. log and its looks fine, HTTP ok message and install successfully, Boundaries are defined aswell according to the sites within sites and services.

I will try to run the ccmsetup command .

Always just curious as to why you didn't extend the AD schema?  (Not critisizing just curious)  Its a very small modification and makes SMS/SCCM life much easier.

Once you have cleaned up WINS, if you're not going to extend AD then you will need to add WINS records for your new MP in the same way as you did for your SMS 2003 MP, the client has got to find it somehow. An alternative would be to pass the MP on the CCMSETUP command line, something like:

CCMSetup.exe /mp:SMSMP01  SMSSITECODE=S01 FSP=SMSFSP01

these settings could also be configured in the client push settings...

I would strongly recommend that you extend the AD schema however. I often hear resistence to this from customers of ours, and yet it is trivial to perform, causes no issues and makes your life considerably easier. If you were deploying Exchange you'd have no qualms about extending the schema, so there ought not be any issues with extension for ConfigMgr either. Finally, managing AD is much easier than managing WINS, which is the probable outcome of not extending the AD.

Good luck

JQ

Ok so now I have removed the old records from WINS, created new records for the current site, I have tested a couple of computers . I uninstalled the clients from those computers by running ccmsetup.exe /uninstall from the command line,
Client was uninstalled, later I pushed the client once again from the sccm server and the client began installing.
I was paying close attention to the logs, specifically the Locationservices log which states issue when communicating with WINS.
Turns out that the client tries to obtain the site through the old SMS server which is no longer on the network at all, nor are the records in WINS. Doesn uninstalling the client remove everything from the previous clients. Please advise. Any ideas
