Hi

Our company plan to push out Office 2007 next Thursday but I have a problem with it now.

Last month I create the package and it works fine.  I try to create a new advertisement but for a different collection on Tuesday and it didn't install the software onto the machine.  When I check the machine,  the Office 2007 folder is download to the C:\windows\system32\ccm\cache\ but it's not install.  I checked Run Advertise Programs under Control Panel, there is no software ready for run.

Under Advertisement Status in Configuration Manager Console, that advertisement has:
Received:  2
Programs Started:  2
others are 0

In the ConfigMgr Status Message Viewer, this is the last message:

Program started for advertisement "STC20017" ("STC00012" - "Office 2007 Standard").
Command line: "C:\WINDOWS\system32\CCM\Cache\STC00012.1.System\setup.exe"
Working directory: C:\WINDOWS\system32\CCM\Cache\STC00012.1.System\
User context: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM

And I don't have any error in there.

Could you please help me out with this.  I dont know what did I do wrong to cause it.

Thank you very much.

Check Task Manager on that client.  Is setup.exe listed?  If so, check your program properties.  Verify you've checked the box to allow the user to interact; allow that changed policy to replicate & get picked up by the client (basically, wait a while), then try again.

Yes the setup.exe is in the Task Manager but it doesn't seem to do anything.  Because Memory Usage stay the at 19,188 while the CPU usage is 0.

Sorry, could I ask where can I find the box to allow user to interact?  Is it the one that "Allow users to run the program independently of assignments" under package properties?  I didn't check it because I thought I dont plan to allow the user to have that option.  Do I have to check it to make it work?

Thank you

I tick it and wait for the whole weekend but it just the same thing.  The setup.exe is there in the Task Manager but I dont know what it's doing.  It just seem to sit there and do nothing.  I really need your help, please.

Thank you.

Sorry, didn't see your earlier post.  The box I meant isn't in the Advertisement properties.  In your package, look at the properties of the program.  I don't have a console in front of me, but in the tab where you can pick 'run whether or not a user is logged in'.  There's a checkbox there to allow the user to interact.

I didn't check it.  Do I have to?
If we do, does it mean we allow the user to interact with the software installation?

Yes, but remember... we are in troubleshooting mode.  We're trying to figure out why it doesn't install at all.  Once you figure out what the problem is, you may be able to go back and uncheck the box again.

I'll give it a go.
Another thing, don't know whether because of it that's why the installation isn't working.  I just found out that under Component Status, I have the SMS_AD_SYSTEM_DISCOVERY_AGENT error.  Are they related?

Hi Skissinger,

Yeah it works.  So if I allow the user to interact, it will popup a screen and ask to Upgrade or Customise.  If we choose Upgrade then I will start uninstall office 2000 and install Office 2007.

So what wrong with the autoinstall?

thank you

Have you gone through this, and confirmed your config.xml is what you want it to be?  Here's a possible sample.

I'm using the .msp file instead of the config.xml.  Do I still need to modify the Config.xml file?

Honestly, I've never setup Office 2007 for deployment.  What I've learned about deploying Office 2007 is just what I've read in the last day!  But in research (honestly, it's been less than 10 minutes of research, so do your own!) it sounded like config.xml is where you can set some preferences, like whether or not to pick upgrade without user interaction.  But like I said, it's very, very little research on my part.

Some of the entries at appdeploy imply people often use the config.xml.
