After advertising additional updates to some test servers, the resource explorer for those test servers shows the updates as still being applicable but not installed. Resource explorer also shows the update with the advertisement under authorization. Also, add and remove programs doesn't show them as installed. What am I missing and does anyone know of a particular article or site to help grasp the entire process of using software updates (i.e. how the sync performs when it performs, etc...)? Thanks in advance for any help, it is greatly appreciated.

If you are referring to ITMU, then this may help, details what logs to check when the scan and patch install process kicks off - http://www.myitforum.com/myITWiki/ITMU.ashx

If its WSUS, then not sure, i'm still on SMS 2003/ITMU.

I am working with SMS 2003 SP3 and I downloaded and ran the Security Update Inventory Tool (SecutrityPatch_xxx.exe). I appologize for leaving this out in my first post.

i have looked the links you sent and they were very good. it seems as if i should download the itmu tool. however, if i do, do you know what effect it might have on my already downloaded and installed SUIT? Thanks for the fast reply.

If you already ran the old security update tool without a problem, ITMU should be fine too. Be sure to uninstall the old tool though.
