Im just now playing with Software Updates in SCCM... I am very used to ITMU, and while I find the new system a tad difficult to initially get my head around, Im making progress.

The one thing that I cant seem to find is how to control reboots after patch installs that require a reboot.  I dont want to just simply suppress reboots - i want to be able to force a reboot, but allow the user to postpone it for a specified period, until a deadline.  I cant figure out how to do that in SCCM... and I dont really want to use
maintenance windows.  Is there no way to do this?

Yes, the only way to do this is a maintanance window.  The only way around this is to suppress reboot and then create a package using he shutdown.exe command on the desktop. Set to to run at x time with a expiration at x time.  Then set it to run either when logout/logedin or what not...

make sense

You can cotrol the timing of reboots, and user postponement, much like under SMS. See our Wiki http://www.myitforum.com/myITWiki/SCCMSU.ashx for information.

Steve -
thats great info.  thanks for the link

do you know if you select the option to "hide deployments from user" if that also hides any reboot countdown timers as well?

I don't believe so, but with any patching activities you need to test and see if the behavior is what you expect. Always expect surrises.
