Hi,

I wonder if anyone can help me please. I am trying to figure out how to upgrade the SMS 2003 consoles of our support staff to the new Config Manager console but I am not having much success.

I have created an unattended script which only seems to install the Config Manager console if the SMS 2003 console is not present. However if the SMS console is present the installation doesn't start and there are no relevant errors posted in the ConfigMgrSetup log.

I need to do an upgrade of the SMS 2003 console to enable our users to administer the SMS 2003 system (which will be decommissioned in a few months) and use the ConfigMgr console for the upgraded sites.

If I do a manual upgrade everything works correctly; both consoles are available and can be used.

Here's a copy of the setup.ini file I have used and a copy of the ConfigMgrSetup log. I hope someone could help please, it would be greatly appreciated! I'm sure I am missing something that's staring me in the face. Cheers.

We ended up writing a script that would detect if the SMS 2003 console was installed by reading the reg key:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\currentversion\uninstall\SMS Admin UI\UninstallString

If the uninstallstring exists, we ran it (surrounded by quotes in case it was installed to a directory with a space) and added the parameters "/HIDDEN /DEINSTALL /NOUSERINPUT"

After it finished, we'd do the install of the SCCM Console.  We used a script file that contained:
[Identification]
Action=InstallAdminUI

[Options]
SMSInstallDir="C:\Program Files\Microsoft Configuration Manager Console"
ParentSiteServer=<site code>
SDKServer=<server>

Incidentally, our "ParentSiteServer" was the SCCM Site Code, not the the server name as yours indicates.  This was the only way we found to reliably "upgrade" the console.  We did the uninstall code ourselves, but the install code came from DougThomson in this thread:
