Has anyone upgraded the server OS from Windows 2003 to 2008 that also has SMS 2003 installed (primary site)?

I'm going through the planning stage to upgrade to SCCM, we really want it to be on server 2008 and i'm trying to work out how I can go about that and use the existing hardware. Ideally we would rebuild the server to 2008 not perform an upgrade but i'm looking at this as an option.

Any thoughts on past experiences would be good.

SMS 2003 is not supported on Windows 2008.

I'm not sure what will happen if you upgrade the OS that already has SMS 2003 but I doubt it would even continue to work. I wouldn't make that as part of your plan to upgrade to SCCM.
