I was wondering if anyone had ever come across this or could point me in a better direction.

I have an enviroment with approx 500 servers and sms 2003 SP1 installed.
All my normal reports are fine. I have been asked to create a report to show specific information that is not in my understanding available via SMS. I need information such as Leased/ Owned, lease date / purchase date, etc

All of this information i have in an external speadsheet, is there anyway of linking this to a report so when i run a report against a server it also queries the excel spread sheet. I can change the external data to csv etc.

Any help would be appreciated.

You can import the data from the csv into sql, this link may help, then join on the name of the server from the new table created and to what you already have for the server in the SMS database.

(I have never attempted anything like this, im sure the SQL guru John Nelson aka #2 may be able to better advise, he usually lurks on the forum

I am a bit concerned now about changing my sql database manually as it looks like we will be rolling up to SCCM soon, in the mean time does any one know another way i could achieve my end goal.

Can i report from a text file on the local servers if i keep it in the same format. If so how?
A registry change with all the info required, could i report against this?

All i really want is to add additional information about each of my servers, lease date , business owner etc . all of the information i have in a spreadsheeet.

Do you have an sql dba in house? As a general rule, I was always warned against editing the sms db directly (not that people haven't done it, I was just told don't do it, it's unsupported, etc. etc.). I would get an SQL DBA involved, and see if they can a) import your data into a new database, and then b) outside of SMS' reporting, create an SQL report linking the views from SMS' db to the new DB you've imported.
