ive successfully create images on normal PC's but when doing testing from vmware I always seem to run into problems. Anyone got vmware running with OSD for capturing & deployment testing..?

First error i was getting was related to drivers. ivenow imported the netbridge & netadapter from vmware into x86 boot image. Tried image capture again & now im getting error code (0x800704cf).

anyone have any ideas on this error? google brings up one german page but translate is blocked. any other advice on OSD to vmware machines would be good if anyone has previously encountered & solved issues.

Hi,

I have written this guide about Building your XP reference image on Vmware ESX - Step-by-step
Hope it will be useful.

I use a VMWare Server lab environment with no problems. Have build images in XP and Vista using VM machine as source - works well. You need to import the VMWare accelerated AMD PCNet Adapter into the boot image(s) - source files are in program files\vmware once you install the vmware tools and once done it acts like a normal PC

If you use VM machine to do rebuilds rmember to clear out any existing references on the DC for example DNS, DHCP and AD machine if necessary or you can get issues with the name already being "known" and also you need to restart the WDS service and clear last PXE advert if doing multiple rebuilds

Hope this helps

You may want to edit your VMX to use the Intel Pro driver and specify a MAC to marry up with your PXE advertisement.  Using Notepad, add the following:

ethernet0.virtualDevice="e1000"
ethernet0.address="00:50:56:XX:YY:ZZ"

This article shows how to set your XX:YY:ZZ properly.
http://www-it.desy.de/systems/services/vmware/config.html

Its either virtualDev or virtualDevice.  I cannot remember which.
