Hi all,
I have installed SCCM 2007 in a server (SMSSERVER). In another server I have Installed WSUS 3.0 SP1.(WSUSSERVER)
I navigate in both servers through a proxy.
In Site Systems I have add my WSUSSERVER the Sofware Update Point Role and
I have configured it with proxy.
Then in Component Configuration --> Software UPDATE Point COmponent I have the following configuration:
General Tab --> Active Softwate Update point to a remote server --> Port:80 SSL:443 Active Server: WSUSSERVER Account: Administrator
Sync Settings:Syncronize from an Upstream update Server --> Do not create WSUS reporting events
Classifications: Default
Products: Default
Sync Schedule:Default
Languages: Default

I have the following errors
"On 29/05/2008 12:00:57, component SMS_WSUS_SYNC_MANAGER on computer SMSSERVER reported:   SMS WSUS Synchronization failed.
Message: WSUS server not configured.
Source: CWSyncMgr::DoSync.
The operating system reported error 2147500037: Unspecified error"

I have read several post...i have installed/uninstalled the rol, check/uncheck proxy...etc and the errors continue appearing.
From my SMSServer i can connect to WSUS SERVER through WSUS console.

Is my scenario is this configuration correct?? What else can I do.
Thanks!!!

If "WSUSSERVER" is the only software update point in your hierarchy (or at the highest level of your hierarchy), then you don't need the "Synchronize from an upstream update server" option. When this is configured the way you have it, it attempts to look for a software update point at a high level within the hierarchy. If it doesn't find one, it fails.

The quote below is from the SCCM 2007 TechCenter Library:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb633236.aspx

quote:

7.  Specify the synchronization source for the active software update point using one of the following settings:
  • Synchronize from Microsoft Update: The software update point that is highest in the Configuration Manager 2007 hierarchy (most often the central site) must be configured to use this setting.
  • Synchronize from an upstream update server: The active software update points on all child sites and all Internet-based software update points should use this setting. The wizard selects this setting by default if this active software update point meets the criteria.
  • Do not synchronize from Microsoft Update or an upstream update server: Use this setting when this active software update point cannot connect to the upstream update server. Most often, this setting will be used by an active Internet-based software update point that has no access to the active software update point. The active software update point on the central site cannot use this setting. For more information about synchronizing software updates when this setting is selected, see How to Synchronize Updates Using Export and Import.

Hi mserafine,

Thanks for your response, but I have only that server as WSUS Server. But I still I am having this error.
One question. My WSUS Server was updating ok from Microsoft but from today I cannot download updates from my wsus server. This could be the problem ??

Thanks!

Yeah, the errors are the result of synchronization failures.

Since you only have that one WSUS server, you need to change the synchronization setting from "Synchronize from an upstream update server" to "Synchronize from Microsoft Update". Have you done this yet? If not, make the change and then try a manual synchronization.

If the server isn't getting out to the Internet to get the updates from Microsoft, then I would say either your proxy settings within the software update point component or the with the proxy server itself are preventing synchronization from occurring.

You may want to read the information at the URL's below. It's all about troubleshooting synchronization failures.

  1. Try not using a proxy and have your server go direct to the internet
  2. Check and ensure that the local system account is not using a proxy. Perform the following steps on the respective OS platform.
    1. On Windows 2008
      • at the command prompt type: netsh winhttp show proxy
      • you should see the below

C:\>netsh winhttp show proxy ie
Current WinHTTP proxy settings:
    Direct access (no proxy server).

      • If you don't see the above, do the follow...
      • at the command prompt type: netsh winhttp import proxy source=ie

    1. On Windows 2003
      • at the command prompt type: proxycfg,
      • you should see the below...

Current WinHTTP proxy settings under:
  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\
    SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Connections\
      WinHttpSettings :

     Direct access (no proxy server).

      • if you don't see the above, do the following...
      • at the command prompt type: proxycfg -d

Note: WSUS must be installed first before pushing a SUP role.
After a WSUS installation, close the WSUS configuration Wizard (do not use it) allow ConfigMgr to configure everything for WSUS.

Check your IE proxy setting, only use Automatic Detect Settings and verify the feild for Proxy Server: is not blank, i have found this to become blank and cause the issue you see.

Thanks My Blog

Great Post rdixon !!!!!
I have check Automatic Detect Setting and I have filled proxy address and it works !!!!

I have another WSUS server which I have the same changes but does not work. I must use proxy because I have no other option.

I have review all options and are the same as the other WSUS server that works !!!

Thanks so much, again !!!!
