I was having a problem with SCCM SP1 connecting to a WSUS SUP on another server.

My configuration:
SCCM SP1 - Mixed Mode
WSUS on another server with the WSUS SQL on the SCCM Site server

I was getting the following message in the wsyncmgr.log:

All of the other logs seemed to be okay and I could go into the WSUS admin console and sync with MS from there. I could also see that SCCM would configure the settings within WSUS but couldn't perform a sync.

After 4 days trying to figure this out and finally contacting MS Premier Support, we found that we had to remove the FQDN on the SUP Server in SCCM. Once we did this and then removed and reinstalled the SUP Component then the server would sync and it appears to be working properly. MS recommended to me to leave FQDN off of this Site Server to keep this working.

Hope this helps someone else in the future.

Thank you for posting, having precisely the same issue, with a fresh install of SCCM SP1, Central Site with WSUS WUP, and 2 primary sites that sync. Will post after i try tomorrow.

Shane, thanks for your info. I'm having the same error. To be clear, are you saying to do the following?

Remove the SUP role
Re-Add the SUP role, but uncheck the "Specify FQDN" check box

Yes, I believe that was the steps taken that corrected our issue.

Forgot to post back, sorry dident work for me. Have a Central SUP that works fine, and sync correctly with MS update, but my 2 primary site servers beneath it, still has the:

Sync failed: WSUS server not configured. etc.

Ports are correctly setup, and verified, and if i use the Wsus console everything seems right. On holliday now, so will have to wait a few weeks till further investigation :).

Try to reboot those SCCM servers if you can.....
