we are going only Windows 7 x64. The biggest problem we're facing is that HP has no 64 bit drivers for their printers that you can install easily on a 32 bit print server. Writing shims for compatibility in the application compatibility toolkit fixed most of our other issues.

We haven't decided on 32 or 64 yet. We're still reviewing all our current software to see how it will work in Win7 and between 32 and 64 bit. I'm guessing we're going to lean towards 32 for a little bit and maybe in the future start pushing out 64 to areas that could really utilize it.

Any additional benefits you see by switching to x64?

We have both available for use. We currently have 3370 x86 Workstations and 169 x64 Workstations. We are however a university, which means we can be strange.

We are going 7 64bit unless with special cases for 7 32bit. Might as well rollout 64bit and get your users and support familiar with it as future windows desktop OS's will only be 64bit!

Oh.. I know, and if it were up to me I would be rolling out only x64. But it isn't up to me. I am just suppose to make it available as a pull, so I have options.

We're moving from XP x86 to Win7 x64 and it has been remarkably easy. With any 64-bit issues we've run into, we've found numerous solutions. In my opinion, the choice to only do Win7 x64 was outstanding. If you end up deploying both, it really means that you'll end up doing most of the Win7 engineering tasks twice. The x64-only route seems to be a lot less work than doing both.

Exactly Nash. Do it once, do it right. Best decision we made too.

The choice (not mine) was made to go x86. But some IT developers are running x64 on up-spec'd machines (like me )

we chose 7 x64 as it means one less os to support and of course offers more features than it's 32 bit cousin, while i'm at it, here's a windows-noob guide for deploying Windows 7 Enterprise X64 :)

We're doing exclusively x64 for W7. The decision was based on supportting as few OS's as possible (x86 XPSP3 and x64 W7) and still getting the RAM benefits of x64. Even if we're running mostly 32-bit apps at least the OS can still use the extra RAM. There's a few issues to deal with: seperate registry spaces, seperate system32 directories, seperate ProgramFiles, etc. But, everything has been managable so far. One of the big points is that it positions the business to move forward (go get the x64 app because you'll get a bigger bag for your buck).

x64 though we would consider x86 purely if there was a business need.

I was told today we're sticking to x86. Why? Because we don't need 64 is what I'm told.
