Windows Deployment Services is included in the Windows Automated Installation Kit (Windows AIK) and in Windows Server 2003 SP2. It's also in server 2008.

WDS is a component of server 2003 R2 and there is no stand alone install.  It can be installed via add/remove programs and the install windows software button on the left pane.  Did you mean WAIK?  It works in conjunction with WDS and SCCM.

Here is a link for info on WDS:

Here are some on WAIK:

Is this a service/application that I have to enable or is it enabled by default.

Apologies for hijacking this thread, but it seems relevant.
I am trying to include WDS and the installation on the WAIK in my task sequence when building SCCM servers.

Question is, is there a way to script the installation of the WDS component, or do I have to use a unattended.txt in the build sequence to enable it? I tried to include the WDS component selected in the syspreped image, but when I go to initialise WDS, it fails.

Cheers

Hi Rob

Actually, I had nothing  to install in the [NetOptionalComponents]

Here is the task sequence command,

cmd /c "sysocmgr /i:%windir%\inf\sysoc.inf /u:C:\Admin\Scripts\ocm.txt /q"

OCM.txt (This file gets copied down to the local machine before executing the above command ), and it's contents is shown below
[Components]
Reminst=On

That's it!

Cheers
