I am really impressed with this site and learnt alot on SCCM. I feel some one will be here to help me out. i am totally newbie in this field..
I have virtual lab PC 2007
one domain controller - dhcp enabled
one sccm with sp1 - where i have WDS, Deployment tool kit.

My goal is to deploy windows xp - bare metal scenario
For this i created one windows xp in a workgroup and password is blank.

Steps:
1) Create a software package
2) Create a boot image (Do i need to use built in vista boot image or need to create a new image)
3) Capture the image from a reference computer (here i copied Sysprep.exe setupacl.exe into C:\sysprep folder, then i ran sysprep -minisetup -reseal -reboot) While running this, the client computer got rebooted itself and reformated the entire machine, i don't know where i am going wrong, i am not able to createa capture image.
Moreover i am getting confused here. please help me out.
4) I believe once i get the capture image - i need to add it to "Add operating system image
5) Add operating system package
6) Upload the drivers and import the driver package
7) createa distirbution point for all the packages
8) Create a task sequence by selecting domain option and advertise it.

Is that correct..
I want to do zero touch installation method for all the new client computer - we have some where around 500 computers.

Need help

I’ve attached screen shots of two images.  One image is the building of a reference image using a custom Task Sequence that I created (I suggest using a MDT Task Seq instead of a regular task sequence.)  I’ll be switching my over to a MDT Task Seq here so I get better logging information when running my build and capture.)  I automate the install of my image process into two sections.  The first section is my gold image that I have created that has Win XP SP2 on it and .net and other applications that rarely change that I need for all my Images.  This way when an application changes in our environment all I have to do is create another application package and change that application package in my build reference computer Task Seq and rebuild my new image.  This is a lot faster than trying to manually install your apps and then manually capture your reference computer.  I also build my reference machine on a VMware machine which is a lot faster and I also don’t put in any drivers into my images.  I put the drivers when I deploy my computers using the WMI quires to put specific drivers for specific model machines.
I hope this answers your questions if not let me know and I can try to make it more clear.
I'll try to answer your questions below.

Steps:
1) Create a software package
2) Create a boot image (Do i need to use built in vista boot image or need to create a new image)
You can use the standard boot image as long as you have the drivers your machine needs on it.

If you are manually doing a build and capture you need to use the Capture Media CD in SCCM.  To do this go to OS Deployment section in SCCM console and then go to Task Sequence and right click. Choose Task Sequence Media and then choose Capture Media.  Follow the prompts and then burn the ISO to a cd.  You will put that CD in on the computer you wish to capture the image from.  The computer must be in Windows as the Capture cd is not bootable.  Fire off the capture process and it will do the work for you.

Moreover i am getting confused here. please help me out.
4) I believe once i get the capture image - i need to add it to "Add operating system image
You are correct on this.
See my screen shots for deploying an image using MDT Task Seq.

5) Add operating system package
6) Upload the drivers and import the driver package
7) createa distirbution point for all the packages
8) Create a task sequence by selecting domain option and advertise it.

Here is the 2nd Task Sequence the build and capture a reference machine.  It would only let me do one attachment.
