Just getting SCCM going, I enabled all discovery methods and its grabbing machines like crazy. We have 20 pcs in 3 diffrent AD groups that I need to exclude from getting any software, how do I exclude a couple of sub-groups? If I delete them as they are discovered, will they stay deleted? I did the registry entry of excludeservers in SMS_discovery_data_manager but it still grabbed them.

*all* discovery methods?  Are you sure you needed them all?  Most environments rarely need all Disc methods enabled.

I'd start out with Heartbeat weekly, and AD system discovery (perhaps daily), specific OUs only (or buy systemcentertools.com Enhanced System Discovery).

The excludeservers reg entry will prevent the client from being pushed to those boxes, but I don't think it prevents discovery of the objects in AD.

Hi
the nicest way of disabling the software distribution only while keeping other parts of the client running is through local policies. You can do this now via Powershell and the Powershell SMS extensions.
See the link below
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/cc137761.aspx
the command would be as simple as this:
Disable-SoftwareDistribution –hosts SMSCLIENT1, SMSCLIENT2, SMSCLIENT3
note that you could do with also by editing mof files, but in this precise case, this solution is way more simple.
Hope it helps.
