Hi all, my company is planning to try Altiries for deploying packages which was previously done using SCCM. What i want to know is that if any one has tried to export SCCM packages so those can be reused in Altiris? can this be done using package defination files and some scripting. I am new so would appreciate any feedback on this topic Thanks in advance

I originally thought I had misread your title. This is definitely the first time I've heard of someone moving from SCCM to Altiris since the old SMS days. I don't know of a good automated way to move in that direction. If nobody else here can suggest something, you might have better luck on the Altiris client management forum: http://www.symantec.com/connect/endpoint-management/forums/client-management-suite I hope that helps, Nash

I'm not sure that's the case any more. Plus, I'd be very wary of using Altiris right now. Symantec just dumped (laid-off) a bunch of Altiris-brand employees, and the Altiris market is dwindling. Plus, with Symantec's recent woes around security and being hacked in 2006, their stock is dropping. I expect them to start shedding products soon, as well as more employees, too.

Fanu - I'm going to go out on a limb here, but it might be really smart to bring in either your Microsoft rep or a consulting firm for an afternoon to demo SCCM 2012. The upcoming version (likely to be released in April at MMS) will make your company seriously rethink moving from SCCM to Altiris for package distribution. If you already own SCCM, there really isn't any argument Altiris could make to get a company to move that I can think of. If you don't already own SCCM, the operational cost savings it can create may return the investment in less than a year.

Thanks alot everyone for your feedback and suggestions. From all the replies i think it would be a good idea if i first do research on the SCCM vs Altiris and give proper feedback to my manager ... if they still decide to continue with Altiris then i will look into SCCM connector. Will come back to the post when things are moving ... thanks again

Hi again, I just found out a possible solution ... there is altiris SDK available along with APIs, which allows to script or program. I am thinking to script creation of Altiris pacages from PDFs i have. This might work for me. Any feedback and comment is welcome Thanks
