We have some people that are complaining about network resources..... When the itmu package is updated,, i know that the whole thing recopies to that sites DP. They are saying that when the packages go out, it copies that entire package to the local machine, even including the patches that are not needed.

I thought that scanwrapper runs.. and then that tells the server which patches to download. That way it only a few files downloaded a month.

Am i correct in this?
thanks

When you talk about updating your DP's, NOT the whole "thing" gets copied, only the delta's (changes to the packages)

Regarding workstations it all depends how you have set your advertisement regarding the interaction with your DP's.

- Access content directly on DP
- Download from DP into cache of local machine

Your Scan package needs each month his new cab file

The patches that will be downloaded and installed on your machine, that's something what you decide during the DSUW wizard.

only the delta ok. So when they say that the 600 meg package downloads every month... they dont actually know what they are talking about.. they only get the extra patches added that much

I don't want say that as I don't know the guys that are telling this

But it would very suprise me, it all depends of your config but I don't see a download of 600MB each month.

Do you mean download from the internet? What package do you mean exactly?

When you update the DP it'll only do the changes, not the whole thing.

When you send the package to a client it will download the whole thing each time.  I think, and as long as the advert says download the content rather than run from the DP.

As for scanwrapper running, yes that determines what patches need running but it doesn't dictate which get copied to the machine, that's the job of the package.  And if you have all the patches in one package then the whole lot will go down.  This is if you have the advert set to download content before running.  Alternatively have it run from a distribution point rather than downloading to the client first.
