We’ve rolled out a couple polls specific to SMS Installer.  If you get a chance take a few seconds to participate:

Poll 1:  Are you still using SMS Installer in your organization?

Poll 2:  Would you like to see Microsoft resume development of SMS Installer?

Yes and YES!!!

There are several support personel in our company that use it for a wide variety of things. We use it not only for installing software, but updating configurations, we created a PE menu, automated the building of machines, remotely connecting to and updating client configurations, etc... I write or update a script almost everyday if not every second day.

Yes and Yes!!!

I've been trying to get a copy of this book but have been unsuccessful, and from this forum this appear to be a great book.  If and when publishing resume for this book I will be one of the first to jump on it ... looking forward to it.

If the new SMSInstaller would be developed as a MSI authoring tool, I would defintely be interested.

Rod, have you heard anything from Microsoft if they are working on this?

Thanks
Jerry

Both Yes

SMS Installer is sooooooo simple to hack a few scripts together
I'm learning powershell, but the IDE makes it a great tool, no typo's just plain drag and drop of a few basic functions
It would be great is it has COM and .NET and user functions support, or even better, if it writes PowerShell code and wrap that in an .exe
