matbe -> Driver problem with BDD2007 (injection doesnt work). (6/12/2007 6:41:05 AM)

Hi.

We have problem with some of our laptop models.
After the ZTI installation is complete and the user login for the first time they get a message about new hardware and that they must be an administrator to be allowed to install.

First i though it was a simple matter of a "two-tier" driver with need support added in the ZTI install CD. But that didnt help at all. (I followed the guide made by Arwidmark at his site).

The models and drivers that dosent work is:
Dell Lattitude 620 ATG - Wireless networkcard (Broadcom 1490)
Fujitsu Siemens S7110 - BlueTooth Module

After some more testing i have found out that boot the devices are integrated "usb-devices" and on both models there is a hardware-switch wich can turn on/off network and bluetooth (turn the laptop into "flymode").

So what i suspect is that either the usb devices isnt "discovered" until the OS is started the first time or the hardware switch isnt allowing th drivers to be loaded for some reason during the installphase (this doesnt make any sence to me though).

So if anyone have solved this or have any ideas how to solve it i would appriciate it.

One idea i have (but havnt tested) is that it may be possible to make an Msi package with the drivers and then installed them in the last phase of the ZTI process? I dont know if this is possible though?

/Matt

This might look like one possible solution.

Will try and report back if succesfull.
Any other ideas is still appriciated though.

I had to have one of our SMS guys create some SMS packages to install the applications for some Dell driver programs. Mostly they just had to package them, and toss in the "setup.exe /s" switch command to get it to install silently. I then set up a Role for that particular model and told it what SMS package to install. Seems to be working most of them time (still fighting some video drivers that don't want to install corectly).

You might also check to make sure the INF driver files are being stashed in C:\Drivers. Oh, and one other option is to use the $OEM$ stuff to populate the drivers to all your machines so that they're available (and hope they install correctly).

Oh, and I sometimes mess with the "Load and unload device drivers" group policy setting, so that might help you out too (not sure of your environment). http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326473

Honestly, I've had to do this for more and more drivers, so I'm thinking about revisiting some things when I get the chance (I shouldn't have to install half my drivers for ModelX this way!)...

I've got a thinkpad laptop and when the procedure finishes no bluetooth is installed. When I press FN + F5 the bluetooth device activates but can't install it.

What can I do to put this driver ( just 2 little files, cat and inf)??? I've created my image with nLite and distribute with SCCM OSD.

Hmm just tossing this out there, but maybe you can copy the files locally, and then edit the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\DevicePath registry key (maybe tweak your OSD "'sysprep.inf" file or do this via a VBScript). If you're talking about XP that is...

And I'm not really all that familiar with nLite so maybe this won't help you (not sure why you don't just use the native SCCM stuff, but that's a different topic). If that doesn't help, try posting over in the SCCM forum: http://www.myitforum.com/forums/forumid_144/tt.htm
