dwilson38 -> SRS Server Validation Error while installing SCOM Reporting (11/20/2007 8:40:32 AM)

When installing SCOM reporting I get  SRS Server Validation Error while installing SCOM Reporting. I have gone into SQL 2005 and all is green in the reporting wizard. I am running server 2003 member server with sql 2005 sp1. Has anyone had this problem?

Yes, we are having a similar problem and having trouble resolving it.  We talked with a local Microsoft Configuration Management person here and he has been no help.  The only thing we noticed here was that in the error log there was a reference to an error trying to access the webserver on port 443.  We went into IIS and removed port 443 from the default web site and the install works, but we stil are not sure the reporting services are functioning properly yet.  This doesn't make a lot of sense yet.  If anyone else has experienced this any information would be appreciated.

Use the ResetSRS.exe tool from the SupportTools folder on the CD.  That is what solved it for me.  Here is a link to some more info over at the System Center Community forum:

Wanted to share this with the community.

After trying a number of actions to resolve this SRS error, changing the Application Pool in IIS to run under the Network Service Account seems to have worked for us.

Your mileage may vary.

I also experienced the SRS server validation error. Hopefully my experience helps someone out:

After runnng the reporting .msi with logging (msiexec /i reporting2007.msi /l*v c:\reportinglog.txt)and some digging I spotted a reference to an invalid VDIR.

Digging further I found a file RSWebApplication.config (that I assume the SQL Reporting Services Configuration Screen is supposed to change but didn't)

The file contained a line that looked like this: ReportServerVirtualDirectory></ReportServerVirtualDirectory>

I added the virtual directory name of the the report server in the tag and my validation ran through without error.

Example:<ReportServerVirtualDirectory>ReportServer</ReportServerVirtualDirectory>

Are you installing SP1 or RTM?  Do you have a disjoint namespace; i.e., domain.com DNS domain name with notdomain NETBIOS domain name.  If so, there is a patch that addresses this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936481.
