jlange -> SMS Advertised Programs Issue (3/27/2008 11:37:21 AM)

Hello,

We are having an issue where we are not able to run a manual advertisement from the Run Advertised Programs utility.  This problem only seems to be occuring on our HP 6910p laptop computers.  These computers were setup the same way as all our other hardware platforms.  What will happen is when you try to start an installation from the Run Advertised Programs app it will show the following error message:
This program is currently not availble.
For more information please contact your administrator of help desk operator.

In the execmgr.log file we are seeing the following log messages:
<![LOG[CExecutionManager::FindUserExecutionManager the user <UserName> is not logged on]LOG]!><time="15:25:40.911+300" date="03-26-2008" component="execmgr" context="" type="2" thread="496" file="execmgr.cpp:1709">

Where <UserName> = the name of the user that is logged on to the computer at the time they try to run the advertisement.

If I install or reinstall SMS it will allow programs to be installed using the Run Advertised Programs application until the system is rebooted.  After reboot the above errors will reappear on the laptop again.

If anyone can offer any suggestions or knows what may be causing this I would really appreciate the help since I an not able to figure it out.

Although it only applies to some specific circumstances, have you taken a look at this article?

Also verify that the registry key/value below exists on the clients in question.

To determine if a user is logged on, the SMS client checks the following registry value:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interface\{D597BAB3-5B9F-11D1-8DD2-00AA004ABD5E}

Name=(Default)
Type=REG_SZ
Value/Data="ISensLogon"

I'm starting to have this issue as well.  Any ideas?

Some body make any changes to the GPO's on laptops?  Perhaps something with windows installer rights...or some other service was locked down?  Dcom setting somewhere...  Few thoughts for you.

GPO doesn't seem to be the issue, nor do installer rights or anything other than something SMS related does not know the user is in fact logged on.  The registry key mserafine refers to does not exist.  I tried adding the registry entry here but with no luck.  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/905794/en-us

The hotfix in the link tbrennan provided seems to apply to SMS 2003 SP1 and we are on SMS 2003 SP2, hence it will not install.

If I click Add and get the "This program is currently not available. For more information please contact your administrator of help desk operator." error, then restart the SMS Agent Host service and hit Add again, it works fine.  Something is telling either the local service or the SMS server that the current user logged on is really not logged on.  This is the first SMS infrastructure I've worked on where they almost exclusively push out packages to users, never get these kinds of issues with pushing out to machines.
