EdwardKK -> can't add package to Distibution points (4/16/2008 6:55:49 PM)

Hi all,

I've got a package that i'd like to distribute to new DPs.  I select the package, right click, choose "manage my dps" and tell it I want to add it to new DPs.  I then select the DPs, etc click on OK, and nothing changes.  The package is created on my parent server and is only distributing to a couple of my child servers.  The sender seems to be copying it to the children, but they never get updated in the list.  I also can't go to a child and distribute the package to new DPs from there.

Anyone got any ideas?  I had sent this to only a few dps as the package was still in Pilot, but now I want to distribute to everyone.

Thanks!

have you tried an Update All DPs yet?

Has this package been in place for a length of time or is it brand new?  If it's older, try creating a new package and distribute it to those same problematic sites to see if it makes it.  If it does, it may be a case of that weird "disconnect" where the main console shows a site server as being a DP for the package, but if you look on the site server in the SMSPKG and SMSPKGD$ folders, it's not there.  In these cases, I've had to manually copy the .pkg file over to the SMSPKG folder and use the PreloadPkgOnSite.exe tool, which gets things back in sync.

It's been there for a few weeks.  I had it on some DPs, and then changed a couple of my dps (new server went into place and the old one went away), and now want to deploy it back to all the dps.  Yes, I told it to update all.

How much data are we talking about?  If it were me, I'd take either of 2 roads; remove the package from all DPs, wait a bit.  Then rename the source folder, then in Package Source in the console change the source to match; then add Dps back.  That would be if it's less then, say... 300mb (in my environment, a couple of hours to shoot that out).  If it's more than 300mb, and depending upon the # of DPs I'd have to do this on, I'd remove the package from all Dps; check the .pck file on smspkg on my Primary or Secondary Site Dps; and run the preloadpkgonsite on those Secondary DPs; then re-add the DPs to the package.  If it's a Share DP, you will not have the preloadpkgonsite choice, so go with option #1 in that case.

(Yes; I know there are better ways to troubleshoot this--this is working around the problem not solving it. [8|])

lol skissinger... that's usually what I end up doing.  It's easier to fix it than it is to figure out why it happened.

Well that's what I had to do.  Wipe the packages out and resend them everywhere.  I blame it on sunspots and server gnomes.  never did figure out what the problems were.
