I recently took on a role as a systems admin on an 'as needed' basis with a local company. The network is very small with one server and less than 10 users. I really have no experience with Exchange and need some help.

They have Windows Server 2003 SBS SP2 with Exchange 2003. Currently, users access their email by using the web interface. They can't use Outlook on their PC's. I don't know much about Exchange, but in order to use Outlook and have the servers relay email to the desktops, do they need a front end and back end server, or can this be accomplished with just one server? I'm completely lost.

Just the one server is fine. If you can get to OWA then most likely you are already good to go.

Just open an outlook client on your network and point it to the exchange server. You should be fine.

I can reach OWA just fine, but for some reason, Outlook can't see the server. Their smart phones can't sync with the server either. The error message says the server is unreachable.

I'm starting to think that maybe it could be a firewall issue?

Did you get this resolved? Do you have windows firewall turned on?
