zemporio -> Nightmare SMS WSUS Configuration Manager failed to configure upstream server settings on WSUS Server (4/21/2008 5:14:19 PM)

Hi everybody!!!

I really need some help :), i am about to start to pull my hair out with this WSUS CM server. So this is my setup:

One Central Server, Two Primary Servers and many secondary servers. So I installed WSUS and on Central Server and its working fine, installed WSUS on one primary server using port 8530 ( no ssl), its working just fine. Than i've spent a week with nightmare on 2nd Primary Server. Reinstalled it million times etc etc.

Both Primary servers are configured the same, but i don't understand why 2nd server is not working.
WCM log :
System.Net.WebException: Unable to connect to the remote server ---> System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 192.168.0.25:8350
Remote configuration failed on WSUS Server.

Wsyngmr.log
Successfully initialized COpsMgmtComponent object for component 'SMS_WSUS_SYNC_MANAGER'.
Sync failed: WSUS server not configured. Source: CWSyncMgr::DoSync
Sync failed. Will retry in 60 minutes

WSUSctrl.log
Local WSUS Server Proxy settings are correctly configured as Proxy Name centralserver.mydomain.org and Proxy Port 80
Successfully connected to local WSUS server
There are no unhealthy WSUS Server components on WSUS Server PrimaryB

Do you guys have any idea how to solve this?

thx
emp

Try this. Do not use a Proxy on the 2nd primary WSUS/SUP server.

I have my 3 tire Hierarchy configured with only the Central Site using a Proxy.

What platform are you using Win2k3 or Win2k8? For Win2k3, try the following in a command prompt:
Type: proxycfg
Info should look like the below:
* Current WinHTTP proxy settings under:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Connections\WinHttpSettings :
        Direct access (no proxy server).

If it does not look like the above, then do the following:
* Type: proxy -d

the above to configure the local system proxy settings to look like the above settings.

thx Richard,

i acctually fixed this one, i had typo in the port#. Instead of 8530 i had 8350 :o. Soon as i corrected the port # everything started working. Doh :)
