I've succesfully installed 37 out of 42 secondary site without a hitch, but these last 5 are stuck in "Upgrade" state.  After many efforts (rebottong, restarting services, looking at logs,etc) I finally narrowed down to lack or HD space (thx to ConfigMgrsetup.log) in the root of C:.  I've cleared enough space in most of these servers but the upgrades are not proceeeding.  In one particular server overseas, I noticed the SMS_Bootstrap.exe and logs have now dissappeared, almost as if it beleives that it completed the upgrade succesfully, but still reporting at the parent console as Upgrade. 

Any ideas on how to kickstart the upgrades again?  Also the Upgrade wizard at the console does not list these servers as candidates for the upgrade.
If the only solution is to manually copy the installation files to server and run them from there, what folders should I copy, rather than copying the entire DVD?

Check the sender and hman logs on the server in question.  See if it is communicating with the primary.  One thing you could do is to rerun the install, but you shouldn't need to copy the cd to the server.  If SCCM shows up in the Add/remove programs of the computer, you can force a reset/reinstall.  This should run without any problems.

Paul, There are no errors in these logs, They are communicating just fine and there was no entry in the Add/Remove programs for SCCM  (that would be just too easy). I would be happy to find out what to change in the parent to let me push it out again.  I suppose I can always uninstall it, clean up with preinst , clean registry entries and do a clean install.

So you have no folders/files for the sec site on the server at all?  If so, then you should be able to to just delete the site from the console and repush.

The secondary site server has files and folders and continues to work effectively as a SMS 2003 secondary site (distribution point only).  In fact, I deleted some old packages and their advertisements from my Central site and all changes and deletions happend as expected on all child sites, SMS 2003 and SCCM alike.   I was trying to upgrade, I know that I can't just delete the site from the console and reinstall it without removing all references from the parents DB and pending jobs,etc..   I saw a post somewhere (I'm trying to relocate) that talked about backing up and renaming the site control file.  I didn't read in great detail, but it might be worth trying it.   I might even give Rebottong a try again , hehehe, for Mr Nelsons amusement, jk.

So let me backup and ask this question.  You are actually upgrading SMS2003 sec sites from an upgraded SCCM primary, that was a SMS2003 primary, correct? If you are, then you will need to copy the files locally and run the upgrade manually.

I'd be tempted to start from scratch given they are only secondary sites. Copy the SCCM software locally as Paul says and run setup/autorun on the secondary to ensure clean removal - you might have to delete duirectories/reg keys possibly. Then do a preinst/delsite on the parent primary to ensure that's there no reference to the secondary. Then just run setup afresh on the problem secondaries. They should then appear in the primary after about 10-15 minutes just like any new install

What Ian is recommending would be the last resort.  It maybe possible to correct the issue before we have to do that.  Since the site is functioning in some capacity, there maybe more information that needs to be gathered, like what the overall envirnonment is setup and what lead to this situation.  Once Peter replies, we should have a better idea of what can be done.

Paul, You are absolutely correct in your assumptions, I should have clarified it in my initial post.  I had a perfectly working SMS 2003 Infrastructured, and I recently upgraded to SCCM my Central, 3 Primaries and 37 Sec sites,  only these last 5 are giving me a pickle of a time. I'm trying a couple of things.
On one server , I just delete it from the Parent and Central Databases with Preinst after removing the address for it as well.  It immediately showed up in my Upgrade Wizard list as a server avaialbl to upgrade or reinstall.
On another one, I did a very detail clean up, as Ian sugested.  Deleted refences in the parent and Central DBs, killed all SMS services in the Sec site, and removed as many registry entries that it would allow me without a reboot.  Deleted all SMS related folder, etc. and I began a new install from scratch from the console (copying files from the parent server)
I'll know more in a coupel of hours.

Try running the upgrade via the cd on the sec site.  That should resolve the issue.  Let me know how it goes.

Good Morning,  Previous attempts did not work.  The one where I managed to relaunch the Upgrade Wizard from the parent Console, appeared to be working initially but it fail to copy many of the files needed (strange).  The server that I stripped clean, and ran a new install, is a in a pending state.  It needs to be rebooted, but unfortunately, this happens to be a bussy 24/7 file/print server and is difficult to schedule a reboot.  It might be a few days.

For the time being,  I'm copying the DVD to 7 servers in question and I will begin local upgrades sometime this weekend.   For now,  I appreciate the input and effort.   I'll post my results early next week.  Have a nice weekend, Gents.
