The MS best practice states that if installing WSUS on the same server as SCCM its better to put it into a separate SQL instance. Not a great expert on SQL 2005 - just wondered if anybody has done this?. From a few googles looks like you have to go through the SQL setup all over again

Thanks

You are on target.  You need to re-run SQL setup and on the step where it asks you to select an Instance click the radio button for 'Named Instance'..

To connect to this instance (rather than default instance) you need to use [ServerName]\[InstanceName] in the SQL Mgmt Studio connection dialog.

Thanks - I reran setup in VM ti test and created second instance. I was sort of hoping there might be a slightly shorter way but its no real big deal. So if setting up a brand new SQL 2005 install I presume I have to run setup twice - once for the default instance for SMS and then rerun to create new one

Thanks for tip about connecting to it in Mgmt studio - wasn't aware of that
