I am totally new to SCCM (have never used any version of SMS).

Our installation contractor left literally days ago and already I'm lost! As I find my way through building packages/advertisements and Task Sequences, I often look at the Status messages for feedback on how things are progressing. My problem now is that these messages have completely stopped for all areas: Advertisements, Package, and Site. What I can tell you is that this contractor had suggested a re-design of our drives and prior to leaving moved the database to a separate drive and our first DP to a separate drive. Originally, our Network Admin had built them all on the same one. The contrator reported all was well after doing so and I did not notice the missing Status messages.

I did find and install the Hotfix related to Status Messages from TechNet that didn't exactly describe my issue I don't believe, but installed it anyway. No change.

Where/what do I look at to try to resolve this?

First, lets take a look and see if there are any status messages that have queued up.  Check the statmgr.box located in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Configuration Manager\inboxes (if the default path was used) and check the Stat.box located in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Configuration Manager\MP\OUTBOXES.  There should be no files or very little in these folders.  If there is many, then take a look at the stamgr.log and mpfdm.logs and see if there are any errors.  Also, check within the logs and see if there is any activity.  If there is none, then there is a problem elsewhere.

Lets give this look and let me know.

Thanx for such a quick and helpful response. The contractor warned me that ConfigMgr was "log intensive" but there was little to no time for a knowledge transfer of where/what to look at... So bear with me.

All the boxes in both of the locations you asked me to check were empty.

I'll attach the log files as I don't see anything - but I certainly don't know what I'd be looking for.

Looks like your consultant was a little too aggressive with Status Message Filtering.  How would I know?  I was the consultant :).  The filter that says something about Writing the Status Messages to the Database was probably the one that killed it.  Granted turning that off did improve performance somewhat...

Did you disable the task or delete it?
