phaustein -> RE: No XP Service Pack 3 for You Today (5/7/2008 10:36:13 AM) Actually, it was postponed for the exact reason ITpoint had pointed out on Apr 30 (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/04/30/xp_sp3_delayed/), but they have since made it available on May 6 (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/05/06/windows_xp_sp3_updater_release/).

I then rang MS to order a CD/DVD version of the code so that I wouldn't have to download it. The guy there told me that the SP was still in Beta and therefore a DVD version hadn't been released yet. Surely, they wouldn't allow Beta copies to be automatically applied to millions of PCs around the world that are configured for auto-updates? It all sounds typically confused to me...
