gliu -> Question about using different port on SCCM. (5/6/2008 2:02:27 PM)

Due to our operation issue, I can not use port 80 on SMS 2003 (and SCCM).  Now, I have all my servers upgrade to SCCM, and hit this problem.  I followed the document, created a differetn web site SMSWEB and unchecked port 80 in site propertie's port setting.  And, got all components (MP, DPs, SLP ... another long story), happily sitting under SMSWEB.  Everything look beautiful,  EXCEPT, client push installation gave me

"Failed to find a valid online MP."

And doing "Searching for a valid online MP..."

It seems, only port 80 is the only one working (from my previous test).  Is this a bug?  Do you have the same problem?

Thanks in advance!

jnelson993 -> RE: Question about using different port on SCCM. (5/6/2008 2:57:14 PM)

The clients won't change ports automatically.  There's a script called something like PORTSWITCH.VBS on the SCCM media.
See http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb693645.aspx for details.

gliu -> RE: Question about using different port on SCCM. (5/6/2008 5:29:56 PM)

Thanks,  I tried the link you provided with port re-directed still not luck (see the status below)  I will try to see if I can get this PORTSWITCH.VBS to see what's the difference.

Thanks,

glue,
Can you post your full ccmsetup.log file. I see the 10 meinute retry in the logs, and i'm thinking this has something to do with accessing the bits for the client to install with? How was this client isntallation initiated? SUP Client Installation, Client Push Installation, Logon or Startup Script?

gliu -> RE: Question about using different port on SCCM. (5/7/2008 3:19:47 PM)

Thanks a lot everyone.

Just to clear some questions here
1) AD schema was extended with success.
2) Client got SCCM installed via port 80.
3) I can recreate the same problem by simply activate the default port on other port number.

Here is the ccmsetup dump, if you are interested.  (slightly modifed with bogus server names and domain name).

gliu -> RE: Question about using different port on SCCM. (5/7/2008 5:35:42 PM)

Thanks jnelson993,

The PORTSWITCH.VBS does not help the client push installation.  Is it for post install to re-direct SCCM client port to MP?

jnelson993 -> RE: Question about using different port on SCCM. (5/7/2008 5:39:22 PM)

Yes, I was misunderstanding your situation.  I didn't realize you had the problem after INSTALLING with the CCMHTTPPORT set to a custom port.  I thought you were just changing the port in SCCM and expecting the clients to follow.

PORTSWITCH.VBS is intended to change ports after the clients are already installed, otherwise they get lost trying to find the MP.

gliu -> RE: Question about using different port on SCCM. (5/8/2008 2:57:39 PM)

Thanks agin Jnelson993

Your were right.  It is the situation that I changed the server's default port then hope for client installation can pick up the new port.  ccmsetup.log tells me that it can not locate MP.

In the log of  my earlier post, my client got new port, MP server listing, and all necessary information.  Site server had been tested with Port 80 as default port. (in Mixed mode).  Then, I change the default port, then server completed it's work, then I initiate client push installation from console, then ccmsetup.log shows it's seaching valid MP, then look evevery 10 minutes.

My AD schema had been extended with success.  I also did create a "custom web site", switch to different port on one of my SCCM server with the same result.

I believe this is bug in client installation program.
