cjones464 -> Cant assign DP - post wizard setup (5/7/2008 1:16:04 PM)

So I have my vanilla site up and running. Just looking around and running through some of the Microsoft documentation.

Scenario: - If I use the Software Update wizard to distribute a particular update. Step through the wizard and forget/omit to specify the distribution point. The wizard reports that no DP has been assigned and clients will not be able to ……..

So I have omitted the DP by mistake/by design on two or three software update wizard generated, software updates. I can’t see where to go back to these and add – assign the DP.

Also I can’t see the difference between one with a DP and one without.

I will check tomorrow when the site has had an overnight to settle down (phew isn’t the server a lot busier than it was in sms2003)

Will these packages deliver tonight?
If not – (cause no DP was assigned) where is it I go to assign the DP.

Sounds simple?

To assign a DP to a Software Update deployment that has been deployed previously, From within the ConfigMgr console, Navigate to the Computer Management node, then to the Software Updates node, then to the Deployment Packages node, then to the Name of the <Software Update Package>, Expand and click on Distribution Points. Here you can Right Click on Distribution Points and select New Distribution Points. See below...

Thanks RD

Ok well an overnight sleep worked wonders
As is often the case.
Now that system has settled down deployment packages has fully exploded with all the details I need.
Strange that , I looked here several times Y2day and there was nothing to be seen
One to watch out fore next time.
A working sccm site server with 5 clients Needs significantly more grunt than a standard VM setup. Otherwise Nothing will happen in “real time” . But it will happen.
If you are sure you are right. Leave it overnight. A maxim I have often used when working with SMS. Try not to change any setting till you’ve discovered the log that is reporting “your error”
