rtimson261 -> Updating sms_def.mof (5/8/2008 6:11:48 AM)

Hi All,

I have a requirement to change my sms_def.mof to collect some new language setting data for the oracle client from our estate. I am used to doing simple changes but I would appreciate some input on how to cope with getting the same data, nls_lang key from numerous different sources i.e.

LMachine/Software/ORACLE/HOME4/
LMachine/Software/ORACLE/HOME5/
LMachine/Software/ORACLE/HOME6/
LMachine/Software/ORACLE/HOME7/
LMachine/Software/ORACLE/HOME8/
LMachine/Software/ORACLE/
LMachine/Software/ORACLE/
LMachine/Software/ORACLE/

As you can see the majority of the reg entries are
LMachine/Software/ORACLE but the nls_lang key could be under any of the above examples and perhaps more. Is there a way to use the def.mof file to get wildcards or would I need to use some other methododlgy?

Any advise greatly appreciated.

You can't do wildcards.  In this case, it could work; I'd base it on the "add remove programs" snippet in sms_def.mof, where you can (for example) grab the subkey under "uninstall", plus the values for "displayname" in each subkey.  For you, you'd want to grab nls_lang under the subkey values under \Oracle, then nls_lang under each one.  We might need to have a separate mof snippet to explicitly grab \Oracle\nls_lang.  You'd have to join views together when reporting; but at least you'd have the data.

If you want me to make up something, could you export sample reg keys (rename to .txt), and email to mofmaster at smsexpert.com?  Modify any sensitive data in the reg exports before emailing, of course.
