betemtl -> Deploying Windows XP Sp3 with SCCM (5/8/2008 6:07:50 PM)

Hi guys,

has anyone managed to deploy Windows XP Sp3?

My client machine gets prompted to install SP3. After running for 7 minutes the staus says failed.
I check on my cleint machine under C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution and the patch seemed to have been transfered over.

I stopped the automatic update service. Renamed the SoftwareDistribution folder and restarted the Automtic update service.
I re-advertised the service pack and I got the same error message. Another SoftwareDistribution folder was created as well.

I collected the follwoing logs from mtrmgr.log

---------------------------------------------------------------------
The other log files on the client computer dont appear to have any error messages.
Any ideas which other log files I can check?
HAs anyone deployed SP3 using SCCM?

Thanks in advanced for your help

The error in the mtrmgr.log likely doesn't have anything to do with the SP3 install. The error have something to do with summarizing collected metering data.  take a look at this link for more detail: http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=3318634&SiteID=17

What does the execmgr.log, WindowsUpdate.log & UpdatesHandler.log says when the install fails?

Take a look at this KBs.  They may give you some additional troublehsooting points.
Steps to take before you install Windows XP Service Pack 3 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950717)
Windows XP Service Pack 3 installation fails with an error message, and the following error is logged in the service pack installation log: "8007F0F4 - STATUS_PREREQUISITE_FAILED" (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949388)
