jmcleish -> Quick mof -printer enable question (5/9/2008 6:03:10 AM)

Hi,
I want to be able to collect information on local printers. I see I have the W32_Printer class in wbem and in my mof i have the same class defined.
I understand that since the class exists in Wbem, I only need to change the report to true and therfore not have to re-mofcomp this on all my clients .
Is this correct?

However, in my mof I don't have the "Local"  property defined in the report section.
Can i just add this in as:

[SMS_Report (TRUE) ]
boolean Local;

However, if I add this into the Mof- do I then  need to mofcomp this on all my clients?

Thanks
Jane

I don't see a need to add in "Local".  Because network printers are a per-user connection, network printers aren't returned by win32_printer class via Hardware Inventory anyway--by default what you get back will be printers connected by the computer, or local printers.  I have DriverName & PortName set to TRUE in mine; it's up to you if you want more TRUE in your sms_def.mof.

Thanks Sherry,
I do want to collect local printers. And I'll remember those sections to set in my mof- they'll help too!

I was just wanting to check if i had to mofcomp it once I added the Local section in.

Cheers
Jane

I honestly don't know--I guess try it in your lab (you have a lab, right? [;)]), and see what happens in inventoryagent.log on a client.
