aberges -> MDT - BSOD After Image Deployment (5/14/2008 11:42:33 AM)

I’m having an issue deploying a WIM image created with MDT to a VMWare virtual client.  After MDT finishes the Install Operating System task and reboots it bluescreens right after it begins booting.  Since this is a virtual client it reboots before I can see the error message but I can only assume it is the dreaded 7B error.

I read Ben Hunter’s post here http://blogs.technet.com/benhunter/archive/2007/07/12/bdd-2007-integrating-mass-storage-drivers-into-your-xp-image.aspx on how to integrate the mass storage drivers into my image, and have done the following steps to add the vmware drivers to the image before capture:

·         Copied the relevant *.inf etc files to \Control\Imagefilename\$OEM$\$1\Drivers\VMware
·         Added “PCI\VEN_104B&DEV_1040="C:\DRIVERS\VMWARE\VMSCSI.INF"” to the bottom of my sysprep.inf under [SysprepMassStorage]
·         Rebuilt and recaptured the image
·         Replaced the old image with the newly captured one

I’ve actually followed the above steps for the ATI and Intel controllers as well.  I’ve done a bit of testing with various Dell Optiplex models and have encountered no issues yet, but the fact that I’m getting the BSOD on the vmware client concerns me as it makes me think that I haven’t followed the correct procedure for adding mass storage devices… and I want to make sure I’m doing this right from the start as I’m certain I’ll need to add more at a later date.

Does it seem like I’m following the directions correctly?  Does anyone here have experience with this type of issue on a vmware client that might be able to shed some light on this for me?
Thanks in advance for your help!

When botting up press F8 to get the boot menu options, the same way you would to go intosafe mode.  The option at te botom of the first list says not to reboot on blue screen.  Choose this, then reboot so that you can verify your error.
