PLD2008 -> OS Deployment problem with SCCM - Sysprep Error (5/27/2008 2:26:38 AM)

whene i use SCCM TS to deploy an WindowsXP image I get this error during
sysprep:
"setup was unable to change the password for user account adminstrator.
Plaese enter the desired password again."
When I click OK on the error massage sysprep continue without letting me
type the password again. The password after sysprep completed is like it was
in the sysprep.
I check my TS for the right password again.
Thanks,
PLD

The administrator password on your image has to be blank.  If not, then you will receive the error that you are seeing.

BLUzier, can you elaborate on the "blank" password thing?  I never use a blank Administrator password on my reference machines and I have captured and deployed my image successfully without this error.

PLD, can you give us more details?  It almost sounds like your TS lacks the administrative permissions necessary to change the password.

I had the same issue in the past and indeed only a blank password helped.
Also make sure that no local Policies are set (secpol.msc)

And indeed Rjarrett I captured as well images with a local admin PW but in case of that error
the blank PW was the only way to workaround this.

In a later OSD phase you have room enough (I take PostInstall phase as sysprep.inf gets modified here) to set a local admin PW.

In a normal unattended amswer file you would enter an adminstrator password. When you are syspreping a machine the master machine would already have an administrator password configured. Therfore you leave sysprep admin password blank because it cannot change a password already set in the OS.

Well.....it looks like an error in the [SysprepMassStorage] section of the sysprep.inf file.
When it not contain anything sysprep run OK. That after i gave sysprep to build thie section by himself.
I am trying now your thing with the admin password but it sound very strange to me (I closed much more than 100 images with admin password inside sysprep.inf.

One last thing - I am using WindowsXP SP3 !!!

Thanks

Make sure you are using the WinXP SP3 version of sysprep if that is your base OS;
